Travel Websites Still Offering Deals

If you've waited till the last minute to make your winter or holiday travel arrangements, there may still be deals to be had -- in spite of the fact that most travel sites are usually pretty pricey this time of year.

Rather than fly planes with empty seats, the major airlines will usually turn these seats over to online ticket sellers. Because you are dealing with relatively small numbers of empty seats, the deals can disappear quickly. A deal you find in the morning may not be around in the afternoon.

Some sites where you can find deals: http://www.Priceline.com, http://www.Cheaptickets.com, and http://www.Hotwire.com

Be prepared to act quickly, and take what you get. The real cheap tickets often have a one or two day stay over, and are non-refundable.

Travel to Pantanal, in Brazil

Imagine a region almost twice the size of England; imagine it as an African savannah, at the height of the summer, and as an infinite water lake, with no signs of human presence and very few signs of vegetable life, most of the year.

Imagine a place with 650 species of birds, 260 species of fish (such as the catfish, weighing up to 260 pounds), an unknown number of species of butterflies, and caimans, anacondas, capybaras (the largest rodent in the world), agoutis (other rodent), tapirs, peccaries, jaguars, pumas, giant anteaters, ocelots, giant otters, armadillos, several species of monkeys, including the capuchins, and dozens of other unusual species of animals.

GPS - Never Get Lost Again With Satellite Navigation

by Richard Cussons

When we travel, we tend to think of the destination, rather than the roads we take to get there. After all, who wouldn't rather dream of the vacation as opposed to the hours spent in a cramped car with the kids asking every few minutes, "Are we there yet?"

But, the truth is, we have to know where we are to get to where we're going. That is why having a Global Positioning System (more commonly called GPS) is so essential. This cyber map will always be aware of your movements and location, allowing you the security of never having to second-guess directions.

Does this scenario sound familiar? You have traveled down a dirt road, filled with more ruts than dirt, only to enter a town whose biggest attraction is a gas station with inside restrooms. You didn't want to be here, but your innate sense of direction (or lack thereof) coupled with a map that can only be described as adequate, brought you. Now, you have to either turn around or rely on the directions of a man who was more interested in reading the paper than listening to you. It is a tiresome situation, to put it lightly, and one you should not have to experience.

Montreal has a rich history going back 350 years

January 13, 2006, - Linknet Places

Montreal is a city with a rich history going back over 350 years. Jacques Cartier was the first European to reach the area now known as Montréal in 1535 when he entered the village of Hochelega on the Island of Montreal.

Seventy years later, Samuel de Champlain unsuccessfully tried to create a fur trading post but local Iroquois defended their land. A permanent European settlement was established in 1639 and a mission named Ville Marie was built in 1642. Both of these were part of a project to create a French colonial empire.

Some of this history has been preserved in Old Montréal. A visit to the city's birthplace, the Old Seminary and The Notre-Dame Basilica located at Place d’Armes, brings to life over 350 years of history that has shaped the city.

Restaurants and Bars - You do not get water for free, you have to pay for it. If you order water you will get carbonated water. In most restaurants you can request tap water and they may or may not charge you but it is most likely straight from the sink. In some American fast food restaurants, (i.e. McDonalds) you must pay for ketchup as well.

When it comes to hotels, things boil down to a tradeoff between low cost and convenient location. In many cases, especially when traveling to major cities and popular attractions, the closer the hotel to the city or attraction the more you can expect to pay. The best way to save money, particularly in large cities, is often to stay in the suburbs.

by Linda Plummer

It certainly is a poor man or woman who cannot find a few eggs, a couple of potatoes and an onion in their store cupboard!

The ever-practical Spaniard realized this and thus created their marvellous "tortilla" - an easy-to-make dish that could be savoured by rich and poor alike.

Not only cheap to make the tortilla, or Spanish omelette, is immenseley adaptable: you can eat it hot or cold, depending on the weather and your mood; you can enjoy a small slice as a "tapa" (snack) in between meals; or, accompanied by a multi-coloured mixed salad and crusty, fresh Spanish bread, you have a marvellous main meal! Record Numbers Set to Travel This Holiday

Linknet News Daily Travel Digest

Travel may be expensive this time of year, but the AAA is still predicting this will be a record year for travel in the U.S. The organization estimates that 63.5 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home for either Christmas or New Year's. This is up1.7 percent from last year. Approximately 81 percent will travel by automobile.

Travel plans are aided this year by the calendar. With both Christmas and New Years falling on Sunday, that makes for two long weekends, and for many people, an entire week of holiday revelling.
